CVE-2025-68613: n8n workflow expression injection remote code execution

Exploited in the wild High 8.8 EPSS 99.0%

n8n can evaluate expressions supplied by authenticated users during workflow configuration in a context that is not isolated from the underlying runtime, letting them run arbitrary code with the privileges of the n8n process. Anyone who can create or edit workflows can take over the instance and the sensitive data it holds. Fixed in 1.120.4, 1.121.1 and 1.122.0; CISA added it to KEV on 11 March 2026.

What to do now

  1. Check whether you run the affected software and which version (commands below).
  2. Install the fixed version for your system: see “Patch it” below.
  3. Restart n8n (the process or its container).
  4. If you cannot patch today, apply the temporary mitigation below and patch as soon as possible.
  5. Because this flaw is being exploited, also check the server for signs of compromise.

Am I affected?

n8n --version
docker ps --format '{{.Image}}' | grep n8n

Patch it

Use the commands for your system. Distribution packages often keep an older version number with the fix backported, so compare with the fixed package versions in the table below, not only with the upstream version.

Docker images
docker pull n8nio/n8n
# recreate the container from the new image
Built from source
npm install -g n8n@latest
# restart the n8n service

General update steps for every system are on the Linux and Unix & BSD pages; after updating, see which services to restart.

If you cannot patch yet

CISA required action: Apply mitigations per vendor instructions, follow applicable BOD 22-01 guidance for cloud services, or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
