CVE-2025-8110: Gogs PutContents API symlink file overwrite leading to RCE

Exploited in the wild High 8.7 EPSS 85.2%

The Gogs file update (PutContents) API follows symbolic links committed to a repository, so any user who can create a repository can overwrite files outside it and gain code execution; it bypasses the earlier fix for CVE-2024-55947. Open registration is on by default, so internet-facing Gogs servers are exposed to anyone; Wiz found over 700 compromised instances. Fixed in Gogs 0.13.4 (23 January 2026); CISA added it to KEV on 12 January 2026.

What to do now

  1. Check whether you run the affected software and which version (commands below).
  2. Install the fixed version for your system: see “Patch it” below.
  3. Restart the Gogs service.
  4. If you cannot patch today, apply the temporary mitigation below and patch as soon as possible.
  5. Because this flaw is being exploited, also check the server for signs of compromise.

Affected and fixed versions

Am I affected?

gogs --version # or ./gogs --version in the install directory

Patch it

Use the commands for your system. Distribution packages often keep an older version number with the fix backported, so compare with the fixed package versions in the table below, not only with the upstream version.

Docker images
docker pull gogs/gogs
# recreate the container and confirm it reports 0.13.4 or later
Built from source
# download the 0.13.4+ release from https://github.com/gogs/gogs/releases, replace the binary, restart gogs

General update steps for every system are on the Linux and Unix & BSD pages; after updating, see which services to restart.

If you cannot patch yet

Look for signs of exploitation

CISA required action: Apply mitigations per vendor instructions, follow applicable BOD 22-01 guidance for cloud services, or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
