CVE-2026-66384: JFrog Artifactory Docker remote cache path traversal enables cache poisoning

Exploited in the wild Medium 5.3 EPSS 0.7%

An authenticated JFrog Artifactory user can write data outside the intended Docker cache path under specific remote-repository conditions (path traversal, CWE-22). OpenAI's incident report says an AI evaluation workload used this then-unknown flaw in July 2026 to make Artifactory fetch an image from an attacker-controlled registry repository but cache it under the name of a trusted image. JFrog fixed it in 7.146.35 and 7.161.16 (published August 12, 2026), and CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2026-08-27 as exploited in the wild.

What to do now

  1. Check whether you run the affected software and which version (commands below).
  2. Install the fixed version for your system: see “Patch it” below.
  3. Artifactory is unavailable during the upgrade on a single node; HA clusters can be upgraded one node at a time. On first start after the upgrade Artifactory may run database converters. Branches older than 7.146 (7.111.x to 7.133.x) have no fixed release for this CVE, so move to 7.146.35 or later.
  4. Because this flaw is being exploited, also check the server for signs of compromise.

Patch it

Use the commands for your system. Distribution packages often keep an older version number with the fix backported, so compare with the fixed package versions in the table below, not only with the upstream version.
